Here is my problem:

Fantom X6 is currently 3rd in a chain of 4 midi instruments. All instruments besides fantom are receiving data, sent from Logic, on the proper channels and only the proper channels. The fantom is playing information from all 16 midi channels on whatever channel is currently selected on the mixer.

Why is this? and how can I fix it?

Looking for a turkey day solution, hope you can help.

Assuming that your boards are connected using the IN/THRU connectors
LOGIC OUT ---> Board2 IN / Board 2 TRHU ---> X6 IN / X6 TRHU --->Board4 IN

3 (possible) dumb questions...
- Are you using the X6 in Performance mode ?
- It does that in all performance sets ?
- Each of the X6's patches in a specific performance is set to its own MIDI channel (Patch1= MIDI1, patch2=MIDI2... etc) ?

Yes, all boards are connecting this way. Computer "out" to Synth 1 "IN", Synth 1 "thru" to Synth 2 "IN" and so on. )

As I am aware, when you are looking at the Mixer or Layer/Split screen, then the X6 is in Performance mode. And when I am selecting the patch, I am doing that from the performance mixer.

I am unaware of different performance sets.
I am also unaware of how to set Patch 1 to Midi Ch1, Patch 2 to Midi Ch2, etc.... I guess I assumed that they all already patched according to the separate mixer channels. Can you tell me how to check this?

Indeed it is like you said,
But while in Performance mode, pressing [F2] you enter Part View. In that screen you have access to the MIDI Filter. Press [F8].
With the Cursor buttons navigate to the Ch Column. The normal setting would be:
Part 1=Ch1
Part 2=Ch2
Part 1=Ch3
....
Part 16=Ch16
But with the VALUE Dial you should be able to assign which Ch you want for each part.

I'm using that a lot for layering sounds, when controlling the Fantom from my PCR (my main Synth keyboard). And I have a different set for each performance, of course. This is really very useful.

However, this does not answer to your original question, I know...
It seems that the keyboard before the Fantom is transmitting in all 16 channels... would you check that ?

Firstly, I would connect the Fantom directly to your PC. If it responds correctly then the fault must lie with the other synths?

i had the same problem using my mpc2000 xl with it.the only way i got it going was to use the factory reset then all my channels was controlled by the mpc

I went to the midi filter and I was not able to assign the different channels to different midi parts. That setting was not at all assignable via the value dial. Also, they were already assigned properly. 1:1, 2:2, etc..

To rule out the other synths in the chain I removed them and did a test record. I setup a rhythm sequence and recorded midi data from Ch10 to Logic. I then successfully used the recorded data to play back the patch currently selected on Ch10 at the fantom.

But, as soon as I select another channel to prepare another patch on the fantom, or play along with the drum track, the midi data begins to trigger the selected channel while it should still be ONLY triggering the drums on Ch10. Also, I recorded a midi track to channel 11 on Logic and the fantom only reads the data on the currently selected channel (ch10). So even though ch11 at the fantom is a piano, it still only triggers the drums because CH10 is currently selected.

Next, to test Logic was sending properly, I connected a midi instrument after the Fantom from its "thru" port and set the new instrument to respond to Ch11 and it worked perfectly.

So I do believe the problem is at the Fantom. For some reason it is not able to seperate the 16 different midi channels and sees only one big channel. Even if I record to drums on Ch10, if I move to ch9 it plays that patch and so on.

Have I explained the problem clearly enough?

Perhaps I will try a factory reset. Not sure what to do.

Just to update, the issue has been resolved. In the main menu, under the system/usb screen the setting was set to "Midi" and it needed to be set to "storage". thank you all for your help.
