"Piano mode" button won't light up. Fantom X-8

I am not an experienced Fantom X-8 user.
As I've said, pressing "Piano mode" does nothing.
I should point out that
a. I don't really know much about the Fantom X-8
b. I use it mostly as a piano. Nothing sophisticated.
---------------------------
Problems with the "Piano mode" light are not new. I've always seemed to have trouble turning it on.
- Sometimes I'd turn off / back on
- Sometimes I'd stop Skipback sampling and it would work.
------------------------
I don't know how I made it work in the past, but I always eventually made it light up.
Now I can't make it light up - no matter what I try.
I even restored the Fantom to factory settings.
No luck.
---------------------------
Now I suppose it could be a burned out light, but I'm not ready to assume that yet.
Any suggestions?
Any tests I can perform?
Thank you

OK. The "Piano mode" light came on. But I don't recall exactly how.
But I noted this:
There are two "sections" at the top:
Performance and Patch.
Under Performance, there are Mixer and Layer/split buttons
Under Patch, there is a Patch / rhythm button.
----------------------
Patch has been lit during this period - where I can't turn on Piano Mode.
Somehow, I managed to turn all 3 of the above buttons off (not lit).
---------------------
I then pressed Piano Mode and it came on.
So ...........
I guess if I could learn how to turn Patch mode and the other lights off, I would succeeed. Thanks.
