Hi guys,
I've been having a massive problem with transferring files via USB with both the Boss BR900 CD and the Boss BR 600; I started off with the former, and had no problems for two years; then it stopped transferring files properly - if anything happens at all, all I get is an empty 'Roland' folder. After trying god knows how many combinations of cables, different computers, and memory cards, nothing worked. I assumed it was my old machine giving up the ghost, so I bought a BR-600, as I have some urgent recording to do. Lo and behold, the same problem is happening again, on my laptop and other computers. Different machine, different card..... I am absolutley stumped.
Any ideas??
Andy

Hi Andy,
Did you solve this problem with the missing usb folder yet? I am experiencing the same problem... New BR-600, no usb folder, only a roland folder in another roland folder. Creating a folder called usb does not have any effect.
I hope you have found a solution. Thanks,
Danny

Hi Danny,
I did indeed - the problem was a piece of software I had installed for my new Samsung YP mp3 player - for some reason it was interfering with the USB recognition. No idea why. Obviously it would be a huge coincidence if it was the exact same software that was messing up for you, so if I were you I'd just check out every piece of software you've installed from a CD/internet recently, uninstalling them on a trial and error basis, and you should eventually find the problem.
Good luck!
Andy

Hi Andy,
Thanks for the quick reply. I will try with a fresh install of my notebook. Btw: do you know if it will work under Vista. I am considering buying it...
Cheers, Danny

This problem occurs when the BR is put into backup mode while a media player is open in Windows. I've confirmed that it happens with Windows Media Player and WinAmp. From this thread, it sounds like it also occurs with the Samsung YP MP3 player and iTunes. However, the problem does not occur when using a USB memory card reader with the same BR memory card while the media player is open in Windows.
So, the obvious solution is to use a card reader instead of the BR's USB connection. Or, if you must use the BR's USB, make sure you close all media players in Windows before you put the BR into backup mode, and don't open them again until you're finished with the BR and have terminated the USB connection.

hey, i'm having similar problems with my br600, i have only had the unit for a week and have just tried to export a song to my laptop. i get to the roland folder but when i open this it has two files within that rather than the four folders detailed above.
I have tried to copy and paste the roland folder to my hard drive but then get a message telling me one of the files could not be copied. the name of this file looks like a small line drawing of a clock face.
anybody able to make any suggestions at all? getting really frustrated...

Using a flash card reader is really the easiest option. About $8 at Walmart or where-ever you buy your simple electronics stuff.
This is how it works...
-You record your tracks.
-You pull the flash card out of the BR-600
-You slide it into the card reader
-You run the BRWC software (wave converter) that you download form the BOSS/Rolans website (free)
-Choose the drive that is named BOSS BR-600
-Select the song to export
-Select the tracks to export
-Click Go and choose a destination to store the files.
It's too easy and super fast.
