Hello!
I was wondering if I could ask you all some MC909 questions.
I was trying to find the answers on the web - but I was unsuccessful.

1)
Is it possible (and safe) to exchange Smart Media cards while the unit is powered ON?
The biggest card I have is 128mb but the memory is 256mb so can I load up and add some more samples while the unit is ON?

2) What are the exact requirements for the BMP file - if I would like to change the wallpaper in the MC909? The BMP size should be 640x480? And how many colours?

Thanks very much for your answers!
Greetings from icebound Poland ;))

Hey,

You can remove SM card anytime You want(exept when it is in USE), but don't insert while Your 909 is powered ON.

As the screen is not color, You can use grayscale image.

Hi there!

Thanks for your reply.

Are you sure that I should not insert the SM card while the unit is powered ON?

I cannot see much point in not being able to do that since switching cards is essential for me to load the samples up to 272 megs of my memory until it's full (and one card is 128megs at max).

Some folks from other forums actually say it's perfectly OK to do that but now what you are saying is interesting too.

Thanks a lot anyways ;)

B.

Well, thing is that SM cards cannot be found in every shop, so I ain't experimenting that way:)
I know some cases, that card was burned that way...

I think You can safely remove the card anytime (of course NOT when its file-system in USE).
Be sure to hold the card in its plastic bag cose its very sensitive to static electric and scraching...
You can upload your samples via spdif or optical, its the safest way I think and don't need to further converting them (a bit longer than via card or usb).

It's safest to remove the card when the unit is switched off. Reason being is because the MC - 909 is still reading the card, even when it's not in use. Removing whist on, can damage the card. You can always erase unwanted data in the memory bank of the MC - 909, if you want the extra space. Also try to avoid touching the metal chip. Bad readings occur when finger residue smothers the surface.

Interesting question about the colour and size scale. You might have to do a bit of navigation on the web, to find your answer.

EDIT: Unfortunately, it's not possible to import BitMp, unless you have updated to 1.22, to fix this bug. There is an upgrade to 1.23.

Upgrade is available through this link ` http://www.rolandcorp.com.au/

plutoro,

These panel connectors are mainly used for CD, Hi-Fi stereo systems and connecting up to external Interfaces - (Devices). That's the old way of transmitting Digital Audio Signals. Further more, example - You can use spdif to transmit digital signal thru to an ` M-Audio sound card, into PC or Apple, if you like. The fastest and cleanest way is by USB / MIDI, in any case. These leads give out stronger and cleaner signals.

Spdif (TOSlink) and optical are both digital data carriers, there's no such like " These leads give out stronger and cleaner signals."
Digital data (of course depending on the dither, for.ex 16 bit) is always exactly the same data on BOTH sides.
While the 909 has both optical and coaxial I/O, You can load/save samples directly into the fantom engine via sampling method.
At this time it will miss the converting process (in this point of view its an advantage! ).
If You exit from the file system menu, there are none reading/writing event on the card, it could be safely removable.

" Stronger and cleaner signals " No` . I guess you can say the accuracy will be exactly the same as MIDI/USB.

As an example ` Lets say there are no bugs and no decayed files, in the MC - 909.
Respectively :) ~ What happens if " Memory Damage " pops up, relating to the card ?
