Hello forum,

I've just bought an edirol m-16dx and the driver refuses to load on my winXP sp3 pc.
Every time it gets to installing the last .DLL file the whole system switches off.
I tried going into safe mode and doing it, that worked, but after restarting my pc again as advised, i cannot select it in the 'sounds and audio devices' tab. In safe mode, if i go to the 'hardware' tab, i can see it listed, and it says that it is working properly, but i do not have an option to select it in the 'voice' or 'audio' tabs.

It gets worse: If i'm in normal mode and simply switch the m-16dx on, the computer instantly switches right off all over again. Oh yeah, and it doesn't even appear in the 'hardware' list of the 'sounds and audio devices' tab in this mode.

What in gods name did i do to invoke this little peice of hell?

Please help because i really want this up and running. Thanks in advance forum,

All the best & seasons greetings,

Tom.

Hi.

I don't think I can help, but maybe it gives you hpe if I say I got my M-16DX just six weeks ago and I have had no trouble installing it on two different machines, both laptops with WinXP SP3.

I suggest that, in Safe mode, you remove the M-16DX in the device manager and delete all references to it - files and folders etc.

Then reboot Windows as normal and try the installation process from the beginning again. Pay close attention to the instructions and follow them to the letter. Don't connect the M-16DX until you have installed the drivers and rebooted.

If it doesn't work, call Roland. I had an MV-8800 and tried for ages to get it to connect to my laptop PC via USB. Eventually I took the laptop to the Roland dealer and connected to their demo MV without any trouble, and that finally convinced them that the MV was faulty.

Actually, it looks like it's more likely to be the drivers than the M-16DX itself. Maybe try with the drivers downloaded from:

http://www.roland.com/products/en/_support/dld.cfm?PROD...

Wondows XP driver is at the bottom of the page.

joke: get a mac.
not joke: get a better antivirus.

try to scan online or at a friend that has bitdefender.
Many of my friends have problems that looks to be hardware, but the problem was a virus.

Ok, so no joy. Tried scans, tried everything i can think of but that last .DLL file of the driver still switches off my computer. And if installed under safe mode sounds and devices still cannot recognise the file. And once again, after switching back to normal mode with that driver installed, as soon as i switch on the m-16dx the computer switches right back off again. It is definately some sort of compatability issue between my computer and the hardware that is the edirol.

Anybody have any ideas what it may be?

NB. after installing in safe mode i can see in the edirols properties that the driver is not digitally signed.

Thanks, Tom.

try this...
right click on My Computer>Properties>Advanced>startup and recovery>
at System Failure uncheck the Automatic Restart.
After that, try to reinstall the hardware.
That little "option" can give bluescreens and restarts.

Don't be concerned about digital signing. It's just a Microsoft formality.

Contact Roland/Edirol.
