Re: Tom Sawyer
<t>I'm a little surprised your lead calls for a 12 db filter when Minimoogs use 24 db. filters. But there are lot of other differences between the two boards, so maybe the change in filter slope compensates for something else? I'll try it with both slopes and see which one my ears prefer. <br/> <br/...

Did you download the driver as well?

Re: Wave Memory
Thanks, Art. I thought that might be the case, but I was expecting that the samples would take up a much larger amount of memory, gigabytes rather than megabytes. The ROM is not much larger than that on the Alesis Quadrasynth series from the 1990s.

Wave Memory
I was reading through the specs for this model, and it lists "wave memory" as "64 megabyte, 16 bit linear equivalent." Can someone please explain what this means? I have experience with analog and virtual analog synths, but I'm new to dealing with sample-based synths.

Re: Tom Sawyer
<t>I tried getting the growl sound using a band pass filter sweep on two supersaws with moderate spread that were an octave apart, with digital delay to give it a big sound. The result sounded like it was in the general ballpark, but needed some further tweaking. I think the sweep might need to be m...

Re: Where can I get actual numbers for the SH 201?
I would appreciate hearing what you find out, either from Roland or from your calibrations.

Re: Where can I get actual numbers for the SH 201?
I asked a similar question earlier about maximum length of the A,D & R parameters for the envelopes. No one knew the answer, so I have to test them with a stop watch. Welsh's Synthesizer Cookbook contains a CD to assist in calibrating a synth. I have not tried it yet, so I cannot comment on how ...

Re: End of the of SH-201?
Too late. I already threw my SH-201 out a window.
If I understand the GAIA correctly, it is impossible to stack 4 oscillators together like you can on the SH-201. Is this correct?

Re: End of the of SH-201?
Thanks for the tip. I assumed it had the same basic sound as the SH-201. I will have to get over to the Guitar Center and give one a listen.

End of the of SH-201?
It looks like the successor to the SH-201 is arriving. This probably means that Roland will stop production soon. http://www.rolandus.com/products/productdetails.php?Pro... It looks like an incremental improvement over the SH-201, although I think they dropped the feebback osc. I don't plan on getti...

Re: A,D&R Maximum Length in Seconds?
<t>I figure that I'll have to do the final tweaking by ear. But, if the controls were linear and I knew the length of the scale, I would be able at least to move to the approximate setting quickly. <br/> <br/> When I get a chance, I think I'll set my digital watch to stop watch mode and find the len...

Re: A,D&R Maximum Length in Seconds?
I've been reading Welsh's Synthesizer Cookbook, which is probably the most comprehensive book of its kind. He gives the envelope parameters down to the hundreth of a second in some cases.

A,D&R Maximum Length in Seconds?
<t>Does anyone know what the maximum length of the attack, decay, and release parameters for the amp and filter envelopes are in seconds? Also, are the controls linear, so that setting the slider halfway up gives you half of the maximum time? <br/> <br/> Thanks in advance for any info. I've been rea...

Re: How satisfied are you with the SH-201?
<t>Some of the negative reviews I've read are by people who clearly haven't read the manual (based on their factual mistakes) and probably don't own one. If you do a Google search there is a great review by Nick Magnus, who spent several years as the keyboard player for ex-Genesis guitarist Steve Ha...
