I had the same problem. A factory reset will do the trick, but al memory will be cleared!! Factory reset is holding down the SHIFT-key an power-on the MC-303. I had another problem. The PCB was broken, so I had to solder some wires.

I have bought a 512 MB module form Conrad for €20,- and the MC-808 accepted it!!

I have never tried it, but can't you record de CC# with realtime record, when you use an external midi-controller (e.g. Edirol PCR)?
