Re: Rd-88 Pedal recommendation
It would depend on which MIDI functions and parameters you want to control, but the first setup seems more flexible to me.

Re: Question about RD line pianos
I think that would be the FP-7F, but it's almost as big and heavy. I suppose you could try out the cheaper FP models if you want lighter.

Re: RD 800 foot pedal for rhythm.
On my RD-700NX I press the pedal while holding SHIFT, then scroll to 136: RHY PLY/STP. I guess the 800 should have something very similar.

Re: Unable to get Concert Grand when using midi from Cubase
Did you get it working? Another thing, you have to make sure Cubase is sending the correct bank changes according to the patch list downloadable from Roland, otherwise you probably get just GM sounds.

There are a couple of relevant settings, Part Mode and Live Set Ctrl Ch, see page 69 of the manual.

Re: RD-700GX Screen Frozen at Startup
I'm sure there are some GX owners here, I have an NX myself. But you could also try over at The Keyboard Corner forum at musicplayer.com, more activity there. Hope you get it fixed :)

Re: Roland RD-700NX and Logic Pro X
Right. Does it actually change the live set on the RD?
When it is set to 16Part, channels 1 through 4 should correspond to the active live set.
I'm on vacation now, but I can try this out when I get back home in a couple of days.

Re: Roland RD-700NX and Logic Pro X
Not familiar with Logic, but I think I have achieved this with other software. Have you checked the "Part Mode" and "Live Set Ctrl Ch" settings on the RD, and are you sending the correct MSB, LSB, and PC messages on the correct channels?

Re: RD-2000 vs FP-90 vs Yamaha CP88
I think the RD should have all the same piano sounds that the FP has, any many more. Are you sure it's not just that the RD's presets are set up with less reverb or something?

Re: NewbieQ2: RD700NX equivalent of SX's "hold 2 Tone button
I don't think the NX has that feature. But piano and el. piano sounds are usually set up with a string and a pad sound as two of the layers already, you just need to press a LAYER SWITCH button. Or press SPLIT to get a bass/piano split, etc. To change the tone for a layer, the quickest way is to hol...

If you press the MIDI button you can set the transmit channel for each layer.

I think that the importance of having aftertouch depends on the sounds you are using, the musical style, etc., and not on the keyboard.

Re: Can the RD be set as slave for tempo?
Doesn't look like it : More strangely, while the RD-2000 can output MIDI clock (not to mention its rhythms as both MIDI and audio), I could find no setting to make it sync to external tempo. A look at its MIDI implementation chart confirmed that it transmits but does not receive MIDI clock. You cou...

Re: 9th Organ drawbar function
This is how it works on Hammond organs, for technical reasons. Roland probably copied the behavior because they want their emulation to be like the real thing as much as possible. I think it's the right thing to do, but suppose it would make sense to have a global setting for it.
