Re: HELP!!! Using other D/A converter (RME, Apogee etc) to M
<t>No worries Artemiy, you weren't shouting, just trying to get to the truth of the matter. <br/> <br/> Yeah, just straight into the analog Ins on the DP/2, it just really makes things sound wide and organic. If you're wanting to just use it live, I wouldn't worry about it, I don't have any complain...

"I find it strange that there isn't more discussion considering this seems to go back to the S."
Me too. I guess the quality as-is and with workarounds is good enough for most.

Re: HELP!!! Using other D/A converter (RME, Apogee etc) to M
<t>Oh, and to answer the original question, yes an high quality external converter will have an effect. It will on anything. When I run the 909 through an Ensoniq DP/2 processor, even with the effects in bypass, it sounds a lot better. Ensoniq stuff used to cost thousands of dollars and they didn't ...

Re: HELP!!! Using other D/A converter (RME, Apogee etc) to M
<r>"This information is not true!!! Why are you telling this if you don't know? <br/> <br/> MC-909 has a linear sampler. The internal waveforms are compressed indeed (just like they are in the Fantoms and Junos), although you won't ever tell that because it's pretty much lossless. But the sampler re...

Re: HELP!!! Using other D/A converter (RME, Apogee etc) to M
<t>The problem is Roland's craptastic RDAC compression. You might get a bit better signal going digital, but the frequency response will still be damaged. Anytime you convert a sample to the 909, that data compression fudges your waves. It doesn't really "read" .wav files, it converts them to RDAC, ...

Re: Sampling quality problem...
Sorry to ressurect a long dead thread, but I've noticed something similar on my MC909. Things loose "sizzle", and no matter what I do, sample via USB, sample digitally, use "Emphasis", it never comes back.
Doesn't the 909 share the same engine as the Fantom-S?

Re: Roland ef-303
<t>No problem Artemy, in fact, there's on one Ebay right now with BIN of $250. Not too bad if you don't want to wait for a cheaper one to show.<br/> <br/> Voice is sort of like Boss's VT pedal, doing a sort of pitch and formant effect. Voice Mod is more along the lines of a classic vocoder, can use ...

Re: Roland ef-303
<t>I have one. Won't give it up. Wouldn't be worth it anyways, they usually go for cheap, don't pay more than $200. They show up on ebay and the like, you just have to be patient.<br/> <br/> It's quite unique. 16 step sequencing of certain effects leads to great things. The effects are mostly good, ...

Re: AKAI MPC5000! that means Roland will have a new Grooveb
<t>The MPC5000 has a lot of pluses actually.<br/> <br/> The workflow looks really nice. <br/> <br/> Onboard VA synth doesn't use any of the effect DSP like MV's bass synth does. Plus, I believe the synth is based on Alesis VAs, so it's fairly deep with 20 notes polyphony.<br/> <br/> Insane amounts o...

New Roland "GrooveBox" You'd Like To See
If Roland did another GrooveBox or tabletop device, what would you want to see? I want to see the MC-G . It would have the following: Knob laden interface like the MC909, or at least the big screen of the Fantom-G with 8 Function keys, which would make editing intuitive. 1 ARX slot 16 velocity/after...

Re: 808 and 909 JOINT BUG REPORT: notes and fx CUT across pa
<t>It wasn't just the effects though that the 909 would do it on. It would cut note sustain as well, even if effects were off. I think a lot of people never noticed because they were working at faster bpms, but try putting it at 70 or 80 bpm, and use a pad sound with high sustain and long release.</t>

<t>I would go for the Korg ESX-1. Don't know why you're looking at the EMX-1 and not the ESX.<br/> <br/> Get a smartcard reader for your computer. If you like the Microkorg, you'll love the ESX-1. No major bugs like the Rolands, and better sound quality (whatever compression you're using on these gr...

Re: Do you think there will ever be an MC-909 replacement/up
<t>I don't think it's going to happen. They'll continue with the MVs, because there's a huge hiphop wannabe demographic. <br/> <br/> If they do it, I'd like to see stripped down V-Synth timestretching as well. Most importantly, a Master MFX like on the Fantoms, expandable to 1GB Ram, and improved so...
