Re: Forget the workstation... is the DAW dead?

Every technology grows, then hits its plateau... Yes - we're in the latter phase now, where it's hard to imagine any new possibilities to improve any further. I've remember that 15 years ago: - good audio interfaces weren't cheap nor plentiful - it was unthinkable to have that much audio processing ...

Re: Bug Report: Serious Bug with Phrases & non-4/4 Time Sigs

<t>There should be an option to set a proper time signature grid in microscope. Anything more would only complicate things further. Phrases are independent from a master track and reusable. Therefore they shouldn't have inherit time signatures. <br/> (someone may wish to put 7/8 ones into 3/4 song f...

Re: Is it really possible?

but don't think the abilty to recreate every patch in performance mode as it sounds in the "patch" mode is a basic function that every board must have. an insert effect is not a part of a patch anyway. in the "patch" mode, some patches are assigned effects to show what you can d...

Re: 1.20 update now support 1GB memory....

Unfortunately Fantoms may be picking about a brand of memory stick. I had problems (random crashes) with my Juno-G (internally it's Fantom-X) when using some DIMM module (and it didn't have any errors). Changed it to recommended Kingston one and problems vanished.

Re: Version 1.20 Software Update!!!

<t>Fantoms don't have audio tracks but sampler which was adopted to behave like them. Using F-G for audio multitracking never will be optimal. You don't have effects per audio channels. There is is limited capacity for wave storage (as they must sit in a RAM) too. For occasional recordings and addin...

Re: Roland loves you!!

The very big plus of Fantom-G is you have an effect instance per every timbre. It isn't as flexible in routing like in M3 but it's very convenient. No more compromises when using multiple patches. It should be a way a workstation operates, maybe there should more PFX per timbre (two, three?).

Re: Good News for Fantom G owners!!

ARX is what really? A PCB board with DSP/other chips and audio/midi interface to a host. It isn't matter what Roland can do with it, but _when_ (and for how much). The rest is in hands of designers of a given ARX board.

Maybe next Fantom. Sorry.
Sorry for what? It's given there are things which can not be done or Roland isn't willing to do them for some reasons.

Re: pol: 8 audio tracks streaming vs 24 audio tracks from R

<t>8 stereo tracks (assuming 16bit@44100Hz) will need only 1.4 megabytes/s of bandwidth. It isn't something current USB flash sticks can not handle. Roland could make a workstations with such functionality if really wanted to. But it didn't whatever reasons may be...<br/> (probably due to product po...

Re: USB is MIDI only! (old D70 + Sonic Cell seems nice alter

I don't know how Roland makes its design decisions. Maybe the engineering of the SonicCell and Juno-Stage makes it impossible to have both USB-Audio and a vocoder in the same device. Probably there would too much overlapping in features and USB audio capable Juno Stage could eat into SonicCell sale...

Re: Juno Stage - Who is it for?

<t>Although GW8 has 256MB of PCM ROM it has weaker effect section and its sequencer is more like an arranger keyboard than a workstation. Juno Stage would be much better if it could be used as a USB audio interface. Fantom-G can and it's a great Roland omission to not add such functionality to Juno ...

Re: Fantom-X Rosegarden Intrument Definition

Yes! Now even my lowly Juno-G works great using USB for midi connections under Linux. Even better Roland's librarian software works now too (via wine). It's nice to be able to stick to a favourite system of choice even for audio/midi related works.

Anyone know if Juno Stage can be used as a computer (USB I presume) audio interface?
If so then I'd consider replacing my Juno-G with it!

Re: 128 poly vs 8

Given that reasonably-priced DAW rigs are capable of getting 200 notes or so of real-world polyphony, there really is no technical or economic reason that Korg, Roland and Yamaha should not be cranking out "flagship" workstations with at least that kind of performance. It depends on a syn...

Re: FANTOM-G VS. DAW

So, I guess there is no workstation available that is a 'back door' to the DAW... Depends what kind of productions you are going to make. If they will audio heavy with lots of effects then a DAW is clear choice. If it will be midi tracking (plus some samples) then machine like Fantom-G may be bette...
