Re: Controlling E1 / E2 / E3 / E4 knobs from Logic X

Seems to be a pretty small universe of Jupiter-80 experts. Actually there are quite a few experts, but they were active 5+ years ago when the Jupiter-80 was still in production. A lot of the quirks of this synth were discovered and documented in this very forum. There is gold here, if you can find ...

Only @cello can answer that since it is his site.

Re: Jupiter-80 midi question, split, recording in Logic

You can play a Registration (not just separate MIDI channels / parts) from a sequencer BUT you have to turn Remote Keyboard Switch to On (in the System Setup -> MIDI settings) AND you have to use a MIDI cable in to the Jupiter-80, not the USB port. However, you can use a USB to MIDI cable (PC to syn...

Yes, the tool works with the Jupiter-50 also. The 50 and the 80 basically use the same file format.

File format (Jupiter-Xm)

Hi Could someone with a Jupiter-Xm provide me with a "backup" file from the synth? It can be exported from the synth to a USB stick. I want to look at the file format and see whether it resembles the Jupiter-80. I'm assuming the sound structure is quite different, but the overall file stru...

Re: Xm is shipping...

Between those two I would buy the Jupiter X, since I don’t like the sound of the Jupiter 6. It is too much on the bright side, and I prefer the Prophet 6 and the OB-6 for that sound signature. The Jupiter X (like the 80 before it) appears to have a warmer sound with more emphasis on the lower freque...

Re: Drum loops

Arpeggios can only be played in the upper and lower parts, while drums can only be played in the perc part. So arpeggios on drums is not possible, to my knowledge. It is better anyway to use an external drum sequence or audio loop, as you suggested. You can also sequence the perc part over MIDI. The...

Re: The Magic of the Jupiter 80!

It is a fabulous and inspiring layering and performance synth. 80 is the true number of the Beast. So few are aware of that. The Beast is a master of disguise, hiding under an innocent, spartanic exterior. If only they knew...

Jupiter-80 Librarian on the Mac App Store

Hi Jupiterians! To celebrate that the Jupiter-80 will get a younger sibling (the Jupiter X), I was inspired to put the remaining effort into my Jupiter-80 Librarian to finish up the first version. It is now freely available on the Mac App Store (it can take up to 24 hours to appear worldwide). Jupit...

Re: NEVER AGAIN A JUPITER

You can certainly argue that the initial price was too high for a mere «performance synth», albeit a flagship. But Roland never marketed the Jupiter-80 as a workstation, so arresting them on that is unfair and unproductive. I understand that features are most important to you, but many people prefer...

Re: NEVER AGAIN A JUPITER

On the Jupiter-80, understanding and working with the sound structure is quite intuitive and fast. They did a good job designing the interface, especially considering the layer complexity. The touch screen is efficiently organised for this purpose. I assume it is harder to work with the Jupiter-50. ...

Re: NEVER AGAIN A JUPITER

Never trust the marketing department of any company. And never trust a company’s support for third-party platforms, which the iPad certainly is. When releasing the app Roland failed to consider its lifecycle. It was a cool integration with the latest technology, but Apple keeps breaking apps each ye...

Re: NEVER AGAIN A JUPITER

The Jupiter-80 vs the Kronos really is an apples vs oranges comparison. I’m on the other side of the fence. I did not like the Kronos at all. It was like using a slow computer with a tiny screen and a painful, tiny UI. I much prefer my laptop instead, which is way more powerful and flexible. I would...

Re: NEVER AGAIN A JUPITER

After the somewhat failed Synth Legends sound pack, Roland released several other free Axial sound packs of higher quality. Many of these sounds I ended up using regularly and have built upon since. Axial Jupiter-80 sounds The big difference between these packs was that Synth Legends tried to emulat...
