Re: Former JP 50 owner ponders JP80

Thanks for your testimony. Alas, mentioning the word "Sonar" alas brings up more "abandonment" issues, because not only does once mighty Roland abandon hardware, it clearly doesn't discriminate against software in the abandonment department. While Roland isn't the only synth manu...

Re: Former JP 50 owner ponders JP80

Hey Vlad, I'm glad someone finally responded from out in the greater Jupiter cosmos. While there is no doubt that if I woke up one morning to discover a Jupiter 80 waiting for me in my studio, I would be captivated by it, it seems like activity here on the Jupiter 80 forum is diminishing just like i...

Former JP 50 owner ponders JP80

Hi. I recently sold my JP50 to pay for mastering a double CD I recorded which has the JP50 all over it. While I found all sorts of inspiring sounds that were perfect for a variety of styles, I never really wrapped my head around navigating the 50. And like many others, I felt abandoned by Roland and...

Re: Roland support for FA series

True about the Kurzweil's, I'm sure they are contenders, I just don't run into them much since the world moved away from "keyboard stores" to mainly mail order. Regarding drivers you mentioned earlier, it is perhaps noteworthy that the Wiindows 95 driver for the classic Emagic Unitor (also...

Re: Roland support for FA series

The Jupiter 50 ... from a sounds palette perspective ... I don't know how much more a company could offer in the way of bread and butter sounds along with fabulous recreations of analog sounds in the same board. Well, the classic pianos and electric pianos don't exactly compare with, say, Keyscape ....

Re: Roland support for FA series

Thanks for conveying all your feelings about the FA series and Roland the company. I'm starting to feel like the two-is-better-than-one approach may be the ultimate way to approach MIDI Keyboards currently ... as in buying for example an FA-07 and a Nektar Panorama P1 would cover all the bases. That...

Re: Roland support for FA series

Thank you Steve for your detailed response. It's really helpful. You mentioned you've been buying these beasts since the 80's ... well I'm an original OB8 owner, and they came out with MIDI implementation, Page Two controls which were really extensive, and most importantly, I could reach them on the...

I would also like to know if there's a PC editor for it.

Roland support for FA series

Is Roland actually really supporting the FA series? If you detect a hint of sarcasm, that's because I owned a Jupiter 50 which Roland did basically nothing to support or update from the moment I got it ... which didn't keep me from using a lot of the excellent sounds in recordings. Or appreciating t...

Re: Jupiter 50

Hey, JP50 is a very useful machine ... a very useful machine that has been abandoned by both Roland and most people who have ever frequented this forum. I have used the hell out of mine, which I also got for a crazy deal. So you have to balance the fact that is has great sounds and a great keyboard ...

Re: soft synths that compliment a Jupiter 80?

Hmmn - I am not satisfied with my VSTIs any longer since I have the Jupiter 80. That's great. Just be aware that certain popular DAWs like Studio One already discriminate against hardware synths/workstations in the present because they foresee the shift to VSTis. And that Roland's sound development...

Re: Question from a potential new user

A used Jupiter 50 for around $1000 is more the reality. It's a really nice synth. With the iPad programmer app, you can really get under the hood quickly to edit the tones. Manual is by far the most useless waste of trees I've ever been forced to read. There are some very useful Youtube tutorials o...

Re: Question from a potential new user

It's a great board if you can get it for the right price -- like under $1,000 and hopefully more like around $750. It's missing a couple of niceties as you found out. And it's really hard to connect with other knowledgeable users, this site is not exactly happening and Roland doesn't care about it. ...
