Try p.59 ref manual. "RHY PTN SYNC START" needs to be off.

Use the TRACK MODIFY function to change bulk velocity values.

Yep - mine does the same. The sound modify knobs are now useless as well. Its a known issue. I've found someone who may be able to clean/replace the pots. Once I get that done I'll probably report back.

Yes, you can send parts of a Studio Set to the sub out. I'm not sure what your friend is trying to achieve, though. If he wants to split the signal then use a splitter box.
