I'm using a MOTU Ultralite.
The SPDIF works well for sending and receiving sound (for sampling) but the Volume needs to be controlled on the MOTU as the V-Synth Volume slider seems to only control analog outs.

As for sampling... anything goes - the V-Synth is great at extrapolating texture so I use a lot of short "Foley" sounds myself.

Happy also to say that i've successfully used Wine Bottler to run the V-Synth Librarian on OSX 10.10.5

Now I can manage all these crazy patches.
