Re: Multiple-channel USB Midi In with MainStage

Kinda related, I use Bomes MIDI Translator to do a lot of MIDI routing. Highly recommended.

Re: A SDK for the System 8?

I've also tried to get information on data formats for Roland products and come up against a brick wall. The company's insistence on proprietary instead of class-compliant drivers, refusal top open-source anything and engineered obsolescence is immensely frustrating for third-party developers. Imagi...

If they just add aftertouch it'll be a huge improvement.

Re: System 8 - Poly Plugouts.

Unfortunately, Roland's keenness for built-in obsolence means they'd rather see us throw the synth away and buy a new one a few years down the line when it's no longer supported. Throw away? Hardly. I have a Jupiter-6 and its still making the same beautiful sounds since 1983. Along with a bunch of ...

Re: Sync Sequencer to DAW

As stated, your DAW needs to send MIDI clock to the JD-XA. You also need to set the JD-XA's sync source

Menu >> System >> Sync/tempo - set to SLAVE

Also set Clock Src to USB or MIDI depending on which input you're sending clock to.

Re: System 8 - Poly Plugouts.

It's a pity Roland won't see sense and make the Plugout standard open source. Allowing third parties to develop plugouts would be a terrific boost for System-8 owners while sparing Roland the embarrassment of copying other manufacturers' designs. Unfortunately, Roland's keenness for built-in obsolen...

Re: Slaving JD-XA to Apple Logic Pro X' MIDI clock:

Are you using USB MIDI or serial MIDI?

See this thread about using the arpeggiator over MIDI. Long story short, it works over serial MIDI but not over USB MIDI.

Re: Arpeggiator from DAW/ext MIDI keyboard

The JD-XA has the same issue with USB MIDI and the arpeggiator, even though the manual indicates it should work. For the life of me I can't think why Roland have done it this way but a firmware upgrade doesn't seem to be forthcoming to rectify the problem.

Re: Next Generation of System series

Things from the forum and additional things System/12 or System/16 [1] 5 octave keybed [2] Fatar keybed (like on the DSI OB/P6/Rev2) The keybed would need to see a drasrtic improvement. With aftertouch! [7] 3 True OSCs [9] 4 LFO's, 4 ADSR per part Do you mean analogue VCO's? That would mean a compl...

Re: Bastle Kastle and the Roland JD-XA.

This came up on the facebook jd-xa group Yes it did, and it was answered at length and in detail there even though the OP didn't really seem to understand the concepts of CV, gate and clock signals, couldn't coherently describe what he meant by "sync" and failed to read the answers that w...

I should add that there's a less feature-laden version which appears to be effectively free to non-commercial users, the author only requests you send him a postcard ... http://www.bome.com/products/mtclassic If you use hardware synths and want to do some poking under the hood with MIDI data then it...

Bomes Software MIDI Translator

Anyone familiar with this? I discovered it late last night, a very highly configurable MIDI routing engine that lets you filter and route between any number of hardware synths and controllers. http://www.bome.com/products/miditranslator# I installed the trial version, used it for about five minutes ...

Re: Gr-33 problem

The GK-3 is a fairly flimsy piece of kit, I've had one just stop working entirely. A first check would be the lead that connects the guitar pickup output into the GK-3, maybe try swapping it for a patch lead and 3.5mm adapter and see if that fixes things. If it still doesn't work then it's possible ...

Re: Bizarre behaviour of arpeggiator rate knob

Yes, since I posted this thread I have come to this exact realisation.

Can't help feeling that the plugouts may be a little too authentic. I don't think anyone would have objected if Roland had brought them just slightly up to date.
