D-50 and JV-1080 are just not a good fit for the System-8

Cause Roland delegated many of D50 and JV1080 features to JD-XA already. So the idea to use System 8 for the same purpose looks somewhat pointless.

Once you've got your JD-XA plugged to a computer via MIDI (either JD-XA's usb or another way) you need to launch JD-XA librarian software and specify your JD-XA MIDI input/output connection in the Setup/Setup MIDI Devices... Then if you have .xal file downloaded from Roland Axial you have to open it...

I'm not sure what exactly your problem with JD-XA is but you can set any part of it to any MIDI channel you like. In a nutshell you can set either all the parts or just some selected ones to the same channel at a time in there.
