Re: JP-8000 added to my setup! ? About output level

The only disadvantages I see happening from recording with the headphone jack... 1. Unless you have a proper audio splitter, it will be in mono. 2. The recording device you are using might end up hitting the reds and clip the sound if it's too loud. 3. If you try to add other instruments or vocals t...

Re: JP-8000 added to my setup! ? About output level

Headphone outputs are always louder than the main outputs on any synthesizer. The reason for this is that the main output volume is optimized for plugging into amplifiers and mixers to avoid the sound being clipped or distorted. While you can easily just record from the headphone outputs, you run th...

Re: Why I Love the Roland JP-8000

I recently picked up a JP-8000 as well and agree with all of the above. I'm a former SH-201 owner and love the JP-8000 much, much more. Don't get me wrong, the SH-201 is a great synth and had many programming advantages over the JP8K, but the JP8K is different enough for me to enjoy the next couple ...

Re: Upgrading from SH-201?

The SH-201 is already capable of lot of bass (tons in fact if you use the Low Freq Boost), so the "tinny" sound he is hearing from the oscillators is due to the tuning of them being locked in place by default. This is why many VA synths and even DCO analog synths end up sounding "thin...

Re: Patch Number buttons not working!

It's dirty contacts with the buttons. Dust gets stuck under the buttons, clots up and blocks the connection. I Holding the synth at different angles while pushing the buttons repetitively and wiggling them around can loosen up the dirt. You can also take it to a repair shop to be cleaned if the prob...

Re: New Gaia... Weird Oscillators!

Besides, all talk about the underlying mechanism is rumour, based on some obscure observations. No definitive confirmation. Sure it is an interesting theoretical discussion topic, but in the end I don’t see why it matters, or why this would mean Roland shouldn’t be calling the Gaia a VA and would b...

Re: LCD screen to PC/Laptop?

Still holding off on buying the Juno G till this is resolved, which is a shame. This reminds me of the problem people had with the MC-505 Groovebox, but that was actually resolved. I don't know if Roland actually addressed the screen problem themselves, but a some user found a supply of replacement ...

Re: NEW SCREEN UPDATE/INFO

But now I dont know whether its the connectors or the screen. Yet another mystery to solve with the Juno G screen problem... This is now a five year old synthesizer, surely someone has to have figured out a definitive solution or answer to this problem by now. I've been eyeballing the Juno G for al...

Re: My 2nd LCD ... and broken again..

I had the same problem and communicated with Roland. They say that the built in LCD had this problem when they released Juno G and a new version is available now. I still am in touch with them to know how to distinguish it from the earlier version to ensure that our service center replaces the modu...

Re: Dual/Split Problem

By default, the arpeggio settings get used on both the lower and upper tone even if the patch is set to split. Kind of annoying, but you need the editor to switch the arp to a single layer. My advice is go to PRESET D8, set the arp to which side you use it the most with the editor, then save it to U...

Re: Looking for help with SPLIT

Unless I'm missing something, there's no way to copy just the lower or upper part of a patch onto another, only the patch in it's entirety.

Re: Roland Sh201 major editor problem in Cubase 5

ASIO stands for Audio Stream Input/Output. When you install the SH-201 UBS driver, the SH-201 becomes an audio interface (basically a sound card) which your computer can stream audio from through a USB cable. You'll only need one cable coming from the SH-201 USB port to your computer. Now, I don't u...

Re: Query re playing the synth at the same time as an audio

I came across this thread awhile searching for a similar answer. This statement in the manual troubles me a bit: "You can’t use the SMF/Audio File Player to play songs while also using USB audio/MIDI message input/output"." What I want to know is that while the Sonic Cell is playing b...

Re: SH-201 Engine same as the JP's??

The sound engine is the same as the JP-8000 (filters, basic tone and pitch range of the oscillators), but a handful of the features have been tweaked and added. Some of the features on buried by weird button combinations, so you need to read the manual to access and remember them. Things the SH-201 ...

Re: Roland Sh201 major editor problem in Cubase 5

The VST itself doesn't produce audio, it's just a way of controlling the SH-201 on a computer for MIDI tweaks. If you want audio, you need to connect a separate speaker to the SH-201, or set up an audio track within the DAW and use ASIO or ASIO4ALL to route the SH-201's USB audio into the computer.
