Problem with saving song as SMF

Post by Alfred Person »

I recently made a song using my Roland Juno G, and I saved it to a card. I also saved it as an SMF (FM1), but every time I saved it, the song had the wrong instruments. All of the tracks saved as piano, except the drums, which were the right rhythm but sounded like "StandardKit1" instead of "HipHop&Latin". Will you please tell me how to write the song with the correct instruments? Thanks.

A standard midi file addresses (general midi) GM instruments.. so to save a juno G song, save it as a a juno G song.. Iiirc the extension is SVQ). in this case, the song will correctly pull up the patches etc that were in the song.

Saving as a smf is usually for one of two reasons..
a) to transfer midi note data to another instrument/sequencer/DAW, or
b) to create a song that can be played on any computer (ie without a Juno G)..

If your reason is a) then patch assignments do not matter as you will use instruments from the target sequencer, and if its b) then reassign the patches in the song to those in the GM bank
