It's called 6/8 in civilized world. It has 12th notes as a base grid, and still an even number of beats in a measure, so can be confused between 4/4 and 3/4.

Hmm.. I think it can be confused with 3/4 as they are almost the same but doubled in time, (depends on who and how they are counting..)but to be confused with 4/4?? Don't know about that... (long and slo as$ measures)

From what your drummer was counting, it looks like it's 4/4 with each beat as Triplet i.e. three notes in the time of two.

Generally speaking, 1 bar is counted as follows (bold is the beat):

6/8:
123223

12/8:
123223323423

3/4:
123

4/4:
1234

4/4 played with triplet beats is effectively the same as 12/8, but written differently :o)

Hope this helps

Hi,

If I was dryknacking I'd probably put it in 6/4.

That would put a bit more emphasis on the intermediary beats (c.180bpm?) than 6/8 would suggest.

3/4 wouldn't imply the two "large" (c.60bpm) beats given by the bass drum then snare in each bar.

Though rockbert I always thought 24/96 was the classic digital time signature...or is that 48/192 these days?

Sam.
