WARNING: forum may be down for a while

Post by Artemiy »

Hello everyone,

I am writing to say that I just got an e-mail from our hosting company saying that our site overloads the shared server quite a bit. We have about 1.2 million monthly server hits and pretty high load due to 2500 unique daily forum visitors.

They ask us to switch to a dedicated server, which makes sense, but requires some significant financing over regular hosting: about $1500 annually vs. $200 that we pay for shared hosting.

As there is not enough money in our fund I have to think which personal savings I can put into this. I will try to solve this as soon as possible but I may have to turn the forum down for a while starting next week.

My apologies in advance for the inconvenience!

That's bad news for a good reason as this means the Clan is still growing.
I wasn't able to contribute for the fund... yet. But I will do it has soon as I get a few things solved and try to... ehr... help you... a tiny bit.

Yes, Roland Clan is the victim of it's own success, so to say ;-)

Shuting down the Clan ? That's sad to hear...
I could see that the fundrising campaingn was not very successful this year...
We all must contribute if we can, but I don't believe that the people posting here could not afford a 10 USD contribution.

**Came on guys, please make an effort to give a small contribution to the Clan !!**

We will all suffer from not having it available

Cheers,
PauloF

What about Roland company itself? Maybe they can provide some space on their servers?

Guys I am sorry to say but the forum will be shut down today - I was politely asked by our hosting provider to do this. Do not worry, the whole database as you see it now will be saved, and I will also make a backup onto my computer.

Artemiy - Glad the forum is up and running again. I would greatly miss the mass of info that has been accumulated. Your mention of backing things up got me to thinking. Is it possible to make all the past posts available for download or on a cd? (perhaps with its own search program). Yearly updates could be added and if a fee was charged for the download then that would help support the clan, while allowing it's members to keep all the info for themselves and with their equipment for future use.
