Advertisements on Roland Clan

Post by Artemiy »

Dear members,

Roland Clan has been serving you since 2003, and now we have over 30,000 monthly visitors which view almost 300,000 pages. Due to this popularity, we need to have a dedicated server. To be able to afford one, our best option right now is to introduce advertising, which will give us some income to pay for the server, and also to keep Roland Clan developing. We would also like to introduce a few interesting new features and services, and keep them totally free to everyone.

We would like to ask for your understanding and support!

All the best,

Artemiy.

I guess this is a bad news for a good reason :-)
I'll be fine with it as long as it doesn't come too intrusive and doesn't include a yammy logo ;-)

We now run on a virtual server which was given to one of our members free of charge, however, we ran out of space too quickly and I had to disable attachments... I'd like to bring that back of course. But for that, we need a commercial server. I could afford one if we have a few commercial services, but they will take time to develop - and frankly it would be *easier* if these services are free, but supported by some ads.

I of course do not want anything to be annoying - in fact, I think sometimes ads can be useful, if they serve you as news information for example.

Art, the new ad appears to be blocking the "search", "latest posts" and "unread posts" links or buttons that normally appear at the top of the forum page.

That's strange. It doesn't appear to be doing that on my comp. Screen resolution?

BTW I'm with the 'V' on this one - No Yammy advertising please!!

Thanks, although I checked something else. I had this page set to Compatibility View as I had other issues previously when viewing the page. I shut that off and then it was fine. I had it on before as the lines on the main forum page seem to get out of alignment with the columns at times but I will leave it off for now.

The alignment of the columns appear to be ok now so this should be fine although others may end up having the issue I had this morning but not realize that they need to shut Compatibility View off.

I've got the same issue with "search/latest post" not appearing, I tried changing the resolution but to no avail. Where is this Compatibility View located?

I will look into this issue, guys. I think fixed height of the ad bar will work.

Should be now fixed for those who had the ad bar overlapping with the forum navigation.
