Roland TR-08 not recognised by Reaper

Im trying to record directly into Reaper from my TR-08 using USB directly into my MacBookPro (OS Catalina). I have set up the TR-08 so that the usb output is active. I have also watched youtube vids explaining very clearly how to configure both TR-08 and DAW preferences so that DAW accepts signal and so that DAW can record multiple tracks from TR-08 (these vids were for Abelton & Logic but principle is the same). The problem is this: Reaper is not recognising the TR-08 as a device in my preference settings. Reaper recognises all my other input devices (UAD Apollo, Komplete Control midi keyboard) so I can select them in preferences but the TR-08 doesn't appear in the drop-down menu of available devices. Can someone tell me what Im missing?
