saving/user area 909 question..

I just bought a 128mb smartmedia card to replace my 64.
I also was going to take one srx and sample all the good stuff to the card.. then put a different srx in permanently in the 909.
My question is, is it best to save as much as you can to the card, and only have stuff(like patches) to the user area. It seems like user area runs out quick, but you can't use any sounds you save unless they're patched.
any suggestions?
