MC-505 step sequencing with MIDI keyboard?

Is it possible to enter notes using a MIDI keyboard while step sequencing on the MC-505 or other older grooveboxes (MC-808, MC-909, D2). Namely, can the "Note Number" parameter be set via MIDI command?

I'm using a D2 (same engine as MC-505), which is a nice sound module and would be a great sequencer if note entry wasn't such a pain. To help, I've written my own MIDI routing program (in Java) but cannot see how to set Note Number in the MIDI implementation chart of the D2 or MC-505.

Yes you can use an external midi keyboard while step sequencing on the 505/909. You might need to turn on the "Remote Keyboard Switch" which is basically a midi omni mode
