Multitimbral use.

Post by stratblue »

Hi All.

I get the fact that the V Synth really shouldn't be thought of as a multitimbral synth in the traditional sense but I was curious, supposing I had a bass patch on channel 1 and I send a program change on channel 2 to call up a piano sound for instance. The bass sound is playing away on channel 1 and I decide that the piano sound on channel 2 needs a tweak, where do I go to do this? Or do I have to call up the piano on the screen, turning my bass line into a piano line, only to have it whisked back to the original bass as soon as the program change on channel 1 comes along again?

Yes. You are correct. The only way to tweak your patch on channel 2 is to put it into channel 1 and tweak from there. This is why the V-Synth is not good for multi-timbral use. However if someone could write a V-Synth editor I think it would be possible to edit each part in place. It is not that the V-Synth is lacking in any way but it requires an editor to get the best out of multi-timbral use.
