ver. 2 of V synth GT question from newbie

hi there's a V synth GT for sale, and I won't be able to see it before I buy, cuz it's halfway across the country. It's not listed as a "ver.2" so I'm assuming it's not a version 2 of the OS.
What's the difference between the different versions of the OS for the V synth GT?
and
Is it possible to upgrade the software with a download, for no cost?
