GT expression pedal

Hello all!
I have a cheap but working expression pedal from Proel that I would like to use with GT.
But from the manual (pag.24) where it speaks for FOOT PEDAL jacks, it says that pedals different fromn EV series from Roland can cause malfunctioning/damage to the synth.
How much am i supposed to be afraid and stopped by this statement?

It's just marketing. I don't see any reason why you should be afraid. The only thing with pedals is the polarity that can be different but I have never been in trouble with that.
