MC-808 vs MC-909

Post by OneMB »

MC-808
-Motorized faders
-Up to 512MB SD-RAM
-Up to 1GB CompactFlash Card
-No SRX Extentation
-128-voice polyphony

MC-909
-No motorized faders
-Up to 256 SD-RAM
-Up to 128MB SmartMedia Card
-With SRX Extention
-64-voice polyphony

Anyone wants to add more?
The SRX capability of MC-909 making it as a big brother
Please right me if I’m wrong

I’m reading the manual for days
I’m making a comparation between it since I can’t afford MV-8000

Other than that, it’s a good call to use the CompactFlash as an external storage
SmartMedia is not available in some country, including mine

I got some suggestion right here
I think rolandus.com staff should put the MC-808 editor at the downloads section
In case if someone lost their Installer ;)

also note that for the 909,
that even tho you can max out sample ram to 256 mb...
you can still only store up to 128 mb of samples
since that is the biggest card it will accept.

id say 808 is the way to go if you can deal with no srx expansion

May I know what the great replacement for the SRX expansion for MC-808?
Does the MC-808 have the same amount of samples as the MC-909 but with new extra samples?
If yes, MC-808 worth to buy because it came out without the SRX expansion

MC-808
-No fader for the digital turntable emulator
-D-Beam for the turntable mode (BPM, Pitch, or BPM+Pitch) [Default]

MC-909
-With fader for the digital turntable emulator
-Fader for the turntable mode (BPM, Pitch, or BPM+Pitch) [Default]

After watching this MC-808 Flash Demo
I only got 1 question about MC-808 before I work hard to find cash to get it
What about the input and output for this unit?

Does it use TS Output or TRS Output?
I'm hoping someone able to answer this question that been hunting me for a long time
Since most of all new DJ mixer got a XLR output (new standard)

I'm hoping MC-808 got a TRS output
Korg EMX-1 has a TS output
I might sold my Korg EMX-1 to get MC-808 just because of the output

Instead getting EMX-1, I should get the SP-606
It's about in same price range (In my country)
Korg groove box lack in sound editor

Roland really makes a new standard for a groove box
Since Roland created it at the first place

MC-808
-Single D-Beam
-No Digital Out

MC-909
-Dual D-Beams
-With Digital In/Out (Coaxial)

The trademark of new Roland product is Digital Output
But there's not digital out on MC-808
Oh, USB is there to save the day

More than one person I know of has been using the 256 mb XD cards with a Smartmedia adaptor with the 909, and it works great apparently. Haven't tried it myself, but probably will eventually.

The interface on the MC808 doesn't even come close to the 909's interface. The motorized faders I can see being incredibly useful, especially considering how cc movements jerk back and sound unnatural ath the end of the pattern. Depends on how much sound editing, onboard processing you'll be using..if you use your computer alot, I could see it being a good addition.

MC909 vs MC808

Post by domino »

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to add something here...i am using the
MC909 now, together with a lot of other machines (Tritons, Virus, Nord..you name it)
You can not compare the 909 with the 808 i think... i only see here comparisons about memory, poly's, digital out etc...but they are both total different machines in my opinion...for instance when i am in a studio the mc808 is a pre because you can connect it to pc's or laptop for editting..has more poly etc..BUT when i am on stage i really prefer the MC909 for it's great display, great user friendly menu's and on the fly sample editting.
So in my opinion the mc808 is more for studio freaks and the mc909 more for on-stage with on the left and right a nice Technics..looks great too by the way.

greetings,
Angelo
