Flash Card Memory ? defrag? backup?

Post by doombilly »

Hey, I'm starting to get where my 808 stutters a bit when it is changing between patterns in a song. Sometimes it will repeat a pattern (intro) when we are playing live. It is always in the first pattern of the song.

Questions:
Can I defragment my card?
Would it be smart to try if I can?
If I want to have a backup of my card data on a second card what is the best way to achieve this?
Do I get a 2nd card, format in the 808, and then restore? That only restores the the User data? How do I get the Card data from one Card to another? Could I not just format a new card in the 808 and copy everything from the old card to a new one?

Hi Doombilly,

easiest thing is to have a card reader on your computer. Then copy all card content (including all subdirectories and files) to a directory on yours computers harddisk. Do this regularly at least one time a week.

To copy it to a card simply erase everything on that card and then copy all the subdirectories and files back from your harddisk to the new CF card.

Bye, Dirk.

ok, I'm going to try that. Thanks Dirk. Also the other thing I think that might be a problem is that my RAM stick might be defective. It was an old 128MB dimm that someone gave me. This problem has been going on for some time, but it is usually very seldom occurrence. Now it seems to happen to almost all the new patterns+songs I've put on there. I've ordered a new 512Mb DIMM from PNY. That should be here Friday. We're doing a mini-tour next week so I really need to get this sorted.
If anyone wants to here what we've been doing our new release (6/4/2010) is up on CDBaby (clips)

and a few full songs are streaming on Last.FM

and SoundCloud.

Cheers, thanks for the info/advice.
