808 - Live Play/Improv

Post by CleverConQueso »

Folks,
I'm new to the 808. I love the PC interface, love the mods the folks on this board have created, the sample engine, the whole nine. I'm coming from an Electribe so I'm having trouble getting used to the sequencer. Can you help a brother out?

1) Is there a way you can see the notes or patches that are making noise at a given time? That is, can you see the note events on the 16 sequencer keys or elsewhere? Or is that only in TR mode and scrolling through the different notes and looking down?

2) Is there a way to add notes to the timeline while a pattern is playing or do you have to stop, shift into record mode (turn off the metronome) and 'audition' the changes?

Thanks,

If I understand your questions:

1) You can see what you have recorded in the microscope mode (Shift+REC)
There you can see the notes position in the timeline, and change the notes, their velocity and gate.

2) You can add notes (events) only in record mode.
From the manual:
You can temporarily suspend actual recording while staying in
realtime recording mode. This lets you alternate between practicing
(rehearsing) and recording without leaving record mode.
1. During realtime recording, press [REC].
[REC] will blink, and you’ll be in rehearsal mode. None of your
performance will be recorded.
In this state, you can play phrases to try them out, and rehearse
the content before you actually record it.
2. Press [REC] once again to resume recording.

By the way, in record mode you can also change parts and their patches and even mute them, you can record the whole pattern without stopping the record process.

I hope its help, good luck!
