software for the apple mac
software for the apple mac
im new in the music game. im haveing trouble mixing down my music just on the fantom x8 and im really getting tired of it. i just got a new macbook the other day. can somwone tell me what program i can get to mix my music?
mac software
there's a ton of programs for the mac for creating & recording music. a macbook comes with Garageband, but GB is pretty cumbersome beyond recording more than 4-6 tracks because it's not optimized very well (which means it runs slowly). competitors like Logic Pro / Logic Express, ProTools / ProTools LE, Cubase, Tracktion and Digital Performer can run 20+ tracks without a hitch, depending upon RAM, hard disk speed (external drives are usually faster than internal macbook drives), and audio interface.

JSepeta is pretty much correct. And don't forget about Ableton Live. I never got into it myself, but it has a pretty big following.

I don't know you, but GarageBand works fine for me. I never ran into trouble when streaming many tracks and running a few synths and effects along. My drive is 7200 rpm SATA, 2 GB RAM, CPU is 1.83 GHz Core Duo.

Yeah, Artemio is correct to point out the drive speed. That can affect your overall system performance, especially where track counts are concerned.
I have the stock 5400 RPM drive in mine right now, but eventually I may look into the 7200 RPM model. I just don't want to have to deal with it right now, and I'm not even trying to play back more than about 10 or 15 tracks at a time in Cubase. I have heard that you can expect something on the order of 20-30 tracks without a hitch, even with the 5400 RPM drive. I believe that you need to upgrade at the point at which you need more like 40-50 tracks or more.
