Fantom-X not detected from Garageband

Post by sishan »

Hi,
I connected my Fantom-X with my MBP using a USB cable, set the USB mode to MIDI in System setting on Fan-X with MIDI thru ON (not sure whether this is required). Also installed the USB driver from the Roland CD.

In GB, added a "software instrument" track. But no sound when I play on the keyboard.

However, in System Profile in MBP, I can see Fantom-X under one of the USB Bus connections and also it works when I change the mode to Storage mode.

Am I missing something for the MIDI connection?

Thanks,
Shantanu

In GarageBand preferences, you need to set the MIDI input device to Fantom-X.

Art,
In GB preferences, under Audio/MIDI, it says "0 (zero) MIDI device(s) detected". I only see default Audio system settings and keyboard sensitivity settings.

The USB cable may not be faulty as I see the Fantom-X in MBP while using in "Storage mode".

Any clue?

Are you sure you got the right driver? Does the driver support Snow Leopard BTW, did you check?

yea, that may be the problem. Where do I check whether the driver supports snow leopard? In the Roland readme file, it only says it supports Mac OS X v 10.2 and higher.

The driver may be pretty old as I bought my Fantom in 2007. The CD may be manufactured much before.

Is there any place to download the latest driver from Roland/Apple site?

Thanks,

That is a Tiger driver probably, even Leopard wasn't released back then. Get yourself the latest driver from Roland.com or RolandUS.com.

Well I wish I could find a solution like that for my RD-700, connected to the iMac via Yahama UX16. The Mac recognizes the Yamaha, but the Roland...doesn't even exist. And, in Garageband, it merely says "two midi devices detected." Okay. That's nice. No options there.
