JV 2080 Mode changing via midi

I've been a user of 1080's & 2080's for ages now but only come across this problem recently, can anyone help ?
I never, up until yesterday, use the GM sounds in any of my modules but had an occasion to, so I could access a particular sound a mate wanted in a project I am working on for him. I alter between performance mode and patch mode freely via sys-ex messages in cubase but once in GM mode ( via sys-ex ) I can't get out of it again, only by using the buttons on front of the module itself. Anyone any ideas ?
