Latency problem

I'm a computer music newbie.

Yesterday i've bought a m-audio firewire audiophile. Today I connect my fantom midi out to m-audio midi in and tried to play some vst i got with sonar home studio 4 (Dream Station).
Well i know that m-audio has an extremely low latency but when i played the sound was so in late!
I think probably i've to set correctly some parameters in sonar and/or in sound card control panel.
But i don't know exactely what.
Could you please help me?

My setup is:
notebook toshiba satellite MX30 Windows XP
fantom x6 OS 2.02
sonar home studio 4
m-audio firewire audiophile
Behringer eurorack UB802 mixer
