USB Audio/Midi interface

Post by Jamesm601 »

Hey Fantomized!

I'm looking to pick up a good audio/midi interface to use with my Fantom X6. I've been looking at the Edirol UA-4FX, but it's a bit on the pricey side, and I don't need the guitar amp modeling functions. This unit also ships with Cakewalk Sonar LE. Does that add any significant value? I know that's just a stripped down version of Sonar, but is it of any worth?

I really just want a stable midi connection (can't get usb midi to work at all) and the ability to stream audio to a PC DAW).

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

I would answer your post if you haven't said the UA-4FX is pricey. Most common audio/MIDI interfaces are in the $300-400 range.

Anyway, to use your XR you do not need a MIDI interface since it can work via USB MIDI mode on itself. So to save some you can look into a plain audio interface (though I do not know many, most interfaces do include MIDI as well).

Thanks Artemio,

Guess I'll hold out for that UA-4FX, or the equivalent. I tried the USB midi with the latest drivers from the Roland site, and very precise adherence to the instructions, but no go. Probably my junky computer. Anyway, thanks again for the response.

James

Just a thought here: if you can't seem to make you XR USB-MIDI to work, what makes you think that you will do it with the UA-4FX

BTW
The Sonar Le now comes bundleded with most of Roland/Edirol gear and I can only say that it is a nice software. It does what it says and works perfectly for any regular MIDI/Audio recording.

Hey V-CeeOh

Thanks for the insight on Sonar LE. I'll definitely take that into account.

To answer your question on the USB MIDI: I actually can get other USB Midi/Audio devices work with my PC. (specifically a Digitech GNX4 guitar processor) so I know it can work. Not sure why it doesn't get along with my X6. I just can't make it show up as a Midi device. USB file transfer works fine though.

Take care.

Jamesm601:

You need to switch the USB mode to USB MIDI in the system settings.

Yup. Did that too. No dice. I also tried that USB Clean All tool from the Roland site. I'm cursed or something...

;)

Thanks for the tip though.
