(assuming you'll use it in a Windows PC) Some guys will tell you it's Cakewalk (Sonar) some will tell its Cubase. You better get some demos from both and try for yourself. I believe both are powerfull but just do things in a "diferent way". Personaly I use Sonar and don't see myself changing.

V-CeeOh is right -- you need to try each one for yourself.
Just remember that casting your lot with Sonar users means that you will be associated with the "unwashed heathen," whereas Cubase users are always greeted everywhere they go with hosannas on-high...
(Just kidding.)

Cubase is a more safe choice, since you can upgrade to a Mac and all your projects will open there fine.

Or just "upgrade" to a Mac right away and join the unwashed masses of the Logic 8 experience!
Seriously though, this stuff is so so so opinionated that it may be difficult to receive an unbiased opinion on the subject. Your best bet is do a lot of research and try to get as many demos and hands on experience as you can.

As for the Mac being better or worse, that is a whole OTHER can of worms. But Cubase is the most compatible. Cubase projects are, I believe, dual-platform -- so you can open your Mac Cubase project up on a PC and vice-versa. You CAN save other formats as OMF files, and you will have to do that with Cubase if you want to, say, open a Cubase project up on a ProTools rig. Cubase is probably one of the best at both creating and reading the OMF format. So you still win.

I'm unclear on this, but wasn't Dimension already available for OSX 10.4.x? I can't remember. I'll do some research.

Okay. Thank you. I did do some looking around on the Internets. but I wasn't able to find any hard information on any of the Cakewalk software synths. (Not like I was looking THAT hard... I don't care that much.)
Thanks again.
