Hi,

I've tried to connect the gw-8 to my laptop, but don't know if I need some special software or something to save the music to my PC as a mp3 or midi file.

When I connect he usb cable to my pc, the windows recognize the gw-8, but nothing happens then. The explorer does not show any more icons and I don't know what to do.

Regards,
Carlos

You can simply save it to usb on the gw-8 then load it on your laptop.

I could be wrong, but I don't think the GW-8 works that way. From what I understand, you can use the port to save data to a USB memory stick like skuppy mentioned, or you can use it as a USB MIDI connection to a computer. That would mean you would have to run some sort of DAW software or what have you to gain access to the GW-8's port. That may give you the ability to transfer MIDI performance data back and forth, but I don't think it will give you a virtual audio port. For mp3 copies of your mix you would have to patch the audio outs into a PC interface (even just your sound card) and record the real time output.

At the end of the day, if all you're trying to do is backup your data the USB memory stick option is definitely the easiest.

first, you must record as song your performance.
second, go to menu utility export, and export your songs to usb stick.
then copy your song from stick to PC.
The song is in MIDI format.
If you want it MP3 , you must record it as audio from GW-8.

Hi this is quite old thread, so not sure if anyone will help respond.
Anyway, I have recorded songs in GW8 and try to export it to USB.
However, only drum tracks are exported (no main track).
Any suggestion?
