Edirol CG8 Freezes on Boot

Post by Electribe_noodler »

Hi,

I'm new to the forum but a big fan of Roland and Korg gear.

I just picked up an Edirol CG8. It shows the cg8 logo on screen and the hard disk spends some time loading "something", but it never finishes booting.

I've tried replacing the battery, fuses, checking all ribbon connectors, pressing factory reset key combinaions etc. I've torn the thing down and rebuilt it. I've tried a compact flash update but it didn't get to the update screen. Last ditch will be to rip out the hdd and check it in a pc.

Anybody else had similar problems? I know it's a fairly niche unit.

I solved my own question/request... For future reference of other GC8 users (both of them). I took out the HDD and put it in a £5 IDE USB enclosure. I used GParted (which is a Linux partition editor you can boot from a USB). The swap partition was corrupt, as it was the swap and not any useful data, I formatted it. I also ran check and repairs against the other partitions. Back into the unit and bingo, boots first time. I'm going to take a complete disk image and host it somewhere for posterity.
