No sound in Roland E-86 Intelligent Synthesizer

Post by Nemesis »

I have a dear old Roland E 86 intelligent Synthesizer that suddenly don't have any sound, not when plugging in headphones either. Display and buttons seems to be working fine. Have done a factory reset and a TEST MODE without luck.

There is an audible click from the speakers when headphones are plugged in.
Keyboard seems to be functioning normally otherwise.

Any suggestions to what part could be wrong?

Thank you, Mikkel

Check if it still outputs MIDI note on messages when you play on the keyboard.

If that still works (and since you said all lights are still working) it might be that the audio part has failed, either the stuff producing the sound or the (pre)amplifier.

If you open it, do you see corrosion on the boards, or capacitors that bulge out?

Sometimes capacitors die on 20+ year old equipment. If that's the case, a handy electronic technician might be able to recap these failed capacitors.

Just a few ideas.

Hello Mikkel,
Finally have you solve the problem with your Roland E-86? I´m in the same case.
