MOTUs "live keyboards" on a Roland A-880

Post by horisonten »

This is a long shot since this sub seems pretty inactive... But can anyone tell me if the A-880 is capable of routing the connected gear like the "Live Keyboards" preset on MOTU Midi Express XTs?

What this preset does, in standalone mode, is to send every in port to all midi out ports except one. So everything connected to the XT can control anything else connected to it.

So the connection would look like this:

Synth 1 (Midi out) > XT (Midi in 1)
XT (Midi Out 1) > Synth 1 (Midi in)
Synth 2 (Midi out) > XT (Midi in 2)
XT (Midi Out 2) > Synth 2 (Midi in)
Synth 3 (Midi out) > XT (Midi in 3)
XT (Midi Out 3) > Synth 3 (Midi in)
...and so on.

When everything is connected like this the preset "live keyboards" will route what comes in on midi in 1 on the XT, and then send out to midi out 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 (all except midi out 1). And this is true to every Midi In port, except its own midi out port.

Is the A-880 capable of this function? The manual doesn't mention this in detail. I know there is the mix function, but this seems to only be capable of merging 2 inputs.

I'll answer my own question. No, it is not possible to create a similar setup. The A-880 is only able to merge maximum two of the midi inputs of the eight.
