PCR control to PCR control?

Posted: 13:53, 26 February 2009
by KnotEye
Hi I posted this on several discussion boards, no one knew the answer.. but everyone was VERY interested how to do the following:
I have an Edirol PCR 500 controller.
It has 8 knobs and 8 sliders (basic)

Under each knob are 2 small PADs (16 in total that would normally be used as drum pads).. If the PADs have a specific type of control assignment... they are back lite.

What I want to do is to be able to use the pads to switch the functionality of the knob just above each pair of pads.
1. default - Knob is used to control PAN
2. selecting a button below it, changes the knob from PAN to ... WET effect control.
3.selecting a button below it, l changes the PAN to DRY effect control... or anything similar control that might be adjusted by knobs.

Would this have to be a SEND from the PCR to the DAS (LOGIC) and then a THRU the DAS back to the PCR? Any clue would be helpful.... and I'll post your answer on the other boards.

Transpose Buttons on the PCR

Ok, here we go.

I've set a limited Key transpose function to my PCR-500 in order to control my V-Synth and my Fantom.

The way I did it was by assigning SysEx (System Exclusive) messages to the B5, B6, B7 and B8 PAD buttons.

You could use how many as you want, for ex: B2 to B8, separated one semitone appart, so B5 will became your "Center tune =zero" and B4=-1, B3=-2, B2=-3, and on the + side, B6=+1, B7=+2, B8=+3 semitones. (Just an example).

Please refer to the attached file, which shows how to do that using the PCR Editor.

P.S: I forot to say that these SyxEx messages apply to Rolang gear only

The image shows the Center tune button config. Bellow you can find the SySex messages that you have to create and assign to the other buttons for -1, -2, -3 am,d +1, +2 and +3 semitones.

I hope I was clear, but shout if you need further help
Cheers
PauloF

Again, thank you. You have open my mind to understand how PCR programming works.

I was playing with your information and figured out how to assign all -24, 0, +24 semitones, to one KNOB or SLIDER, using the "DT" keyword in the SysEx data:

The Master Coarse Tuning System exclusive message is:

F0 7F 7F 04 04 11 mm F7, where 11 is the LSB and mm is the MSB range from 28H...40H...58H (-24 .. 0 .. +24 semitones). Since 11 is = 00 and fixed, I use DT3 Data Type.

Example, Assign all semitones to the S9 SLIDER:

SysEx: F0 7F 7F 04 04 DT F7
Data Type: DT3: 7bit/7bit (LSB/MSB)
Min Val: 40 [28H]
Max Val: 88 [58H]
Virtual Center Click: CHECKED to ensure that you get the center 0 semitone in the center of the slider (value 64 [40H]

Hi everyone!

Graeme, JazzXR, your conversation was very helpful to me but... I have a PCR 500 and have tried to use both your maps but - surprise - only the sliders seem to work! The other knobs and stuff are fast asleep!

Now I'm a bit of a newbie here. Do I need to buy/download anything before I can use control maps?

I guess that a number corresponds to all controls, so that ie i could type a number in the little "control assign" window and the control would be there. But how do I know which number means which function?

Sorry for being a real dummy! Thanks a lot

Vera

I made couple of templates for Elektron Machinedrum . if anyone is interested I post another one for filters etc.
Attached is a template for MD machinedrum. (delays, mutes, midi machines, etc)
hope you can use them

@Vera, do you have the PCR editor? It works really good. and you can load/unload for quick re-making of your templates.

You would be doing me a huge favor is you could send me the PCR 500 control maps you have created. Thanks,

If you are still out there I would appreciate getting a copy of your control maps for the PCR-500. I just bought one used, but still in the box. Support has of course dwindled not that this series has been discontinued and any assistance would be appreciated.

Thanks
