Studio Upgrade Opinions Requested

Post by Sloane »

Greetings,

I'm in the midst of transitioning from a geriatric (but loved) DAW - Roland 2400CD to Logic Pro 8.

Just ordered a new iMac, fully loaded and I have great monitors, mics, my Fantom 7, headphone amp, sound booth, Avalon 737sp preamp, Mackie analog mixer, etc.

But I'll be needing an audio interface (I have an Onyx 400F but it's being used by my biz partner for her voice over work) and a midi interface.

QUESTIONS:
1.) Aside from the Mackie Onyx 400, what audio interface floats your boat?

2.) Will I really need a DAW controller? I've been looking at the Euphonix MC Control and MC Mix but they may be overkill and not all reviews are favorable.

3.) Any midi interface preferences? I have the Fantom, and XP-80, and a vintage MC-50.

4.) Lastly, I'm very interested in how you would configure this recording situation? What would your work flow look like?

I would also welcome any "warnings" you may have regarding products that I should stay away from.

Thanks for your time and sharing of knowledge.

I'm excited about the transition but a tad confuddled as there is SO MUCH STUFF out there and it's always a big investment, isn't it?

FYI, I do not record bands.

Warm regards and thanks again!
