SH-201, the little V-Synth's brother

Post by Artemiy »

Hey V-Tribe,

I've decided that since the 201 is based on the V-Synth analog modeling engine, then there will be no better home for it than our forums, agreed? ;-)

I will soon add the available info to the Roland CLAN archives.

Looks like a capable little synth! I hope they offer better parameter smoothing though, as that's really much more critical if they plan on making it competitve with other VAs out there. Thankfully, the design looks reminiscent of the vintage Roland synths (which guessing by the name, is the idea...).

I must say though, the marketing hype on the SH-201 page of Roland's site is pretty lame. Ultra-EZ front panel, an external input for manipulating CDS/mp3s, etc...

Roland Juno G

Post by victorvet2001 »

Hi Artemio,

Do you think Juno G = SH 201+ Fantom X series? Do you know by when it will be on the market?

Cheers

Juno-G is based on the Fantom-X engine, SH-201 is based on the V-Synth VA section. As about when, from the NAMM videos I heard it will be June (I guess they're still working on it).

I think the Juno G looks pretty cool. It's supposed to have a subsantially lower price tag than the Fantoms, so I could see myself buying the synth. It seems the synth section is identical to that found in the Fantom, including filters and effects...(?)

Yes, correct, you get the complete Fantom-X engine, 128 voices, all the synthesis and effects power, sampling/resampling. Juno-G is an amazing synth in my opinion, can't wait to test it when it's here.

What *clever* person told you that? And can't you hear and see in the video that it's not monophonic? It has 10 voices, pretty enough for 1-part synth especially in this price range.

Go to Roland US site or SonicState.com, both have SH-201 videos.

SH-201 = JP-8000, Juno G = Fantom Xa

Post by jm01011101 »

This really takes things 1 logical step further, since the Vsynth's VA section comes in large part from the JP-8000 (ala Supersaw Wave) the SH-201 looks to be a rehash of the JP-8000, moreso than a little brother to the V-Synth IMHO. I don't think the FX or modulation abilities are even comparable to the V-Synth. A freind who went to NAMM said the SH pretty much sounded the same as a JP.

Having said that...it's not a bad thing...the JP-8000 was a great synth and should be around in a cheaper form!

I do agree the VST Interface is a cool add on ....

As for the Juno-G it is spec for spec the same as the Fantom Xa...just in a better looking box.

Just wondering if anyone else is getting a little sick of the same synth being reissued over and over....this problem isn't just Roland's either...

Add also the VP-550 that take place of the VC-2

So add,

in Vtribe => SH-201 / VP-550

in Fantomized => Juno-G
