Just received an XT and a faulty SH-201!

Post by kokocalamar »

As you migh imagine, I am nervous with excitment about these two machines that I've just received.

But:

Has anyone else experienced problems with the panel buttons of the SH-201?

Nothing happens when I press the button for selecting waveforms for the oscillator, or the button for OSC2.

Also: ALL the LED's on the audio filter panel are lit all the time.

Why, oh why?...

Yes I did.

It's obvious that there's a problem with the mainboard. Sometimes when I press a button, some of the others light up!

But I will replace it today. I was unlucky, and somebody at Rolands quality control had a coffee break as my unit was being assembled.

Other than that, I love it! I haven't even started playing the XT yet..

I was playing with the XT and SH-201 together yesterday and am just amazed at some of the sounds I'm starting to design.

Have fun with it!

Overkill?

Man, I'm curious. I am V-Synth XT user, but I'm curious about the SH-201. Would that be overkill?

"Would that be overkill?"

Depends on what you are planning to do with your gear really. I got the SH-201 for a number of things such as:

- Learning tool for synthesis
- Synth keys (instead of using my Fantom X-8 for everything)
- DJing
- More voices for virtual analog

I am sure everyone's needs will be different.
