SH-201: Portamento CC#?

This is my first post here, hope I'm in the right spot for this question:

The SH-201 manual lists the portamento CC# as 84. However, when I change the portamento value either by holding the portamento button and pressing a number or by holding the portamento button and changing the effects time, I do not see any CC transmitted over MIDI (I'm using MIDI-Ox to monitor MIDI). Same goes for if I try sending a CC #84 - the portamento setting is unaffected by this.

I can change a number of other parameters and observe the sent CC#, and I can change them as well via MIDI, but I'm not having any luck with portamento. Does anybody know how to go about changing portamento time through MIDI?

Usually CC#5 controls Portamento time on most synths. My guess is that CC#84 is simply turning Portamento on or off.
