midi thru

Post by simeon »

is midi thru possible?

i use a sequencer (hardware not software) to control my sh 201 and id like to be able to use the 'midi out' port of the sh 201 as a 'midi thru' for other hardware midi devices.

can this be done

Hi SImeon,
Without wanting to sound too obvious...
Is there any MIDI Thru out in any of the other MIDI devices that you want to control from the sequencer ?
In that case connect the sequencer to that device first, and then MIDI thru of that device to the SH-201' MIDI IN

sadly not :( hence the problem. also is it posible, wen using the sh 201 as an adiuo interface for recording, to only route the extrnal input thru the interface and send the aduio of the synth to a mixer but not have it being combined wiht the audio input that is leaving via usb?

Unfortunately, you cannot do that with the SH-201, because of
how the audio flow is implemented.

As you can see form the drawing, both outputs (Analogue and USB) have the same audio signals in parallel, so there is no way to separate them.

MIDI Thru

Post by KrisR »

Simeon,

Regarding your first question, the SH-201 does have a soft thru function you can turn on (see manual under MIDI parameters). This will route all of your incoming MIDI mesages to the MIDI out of the SH-201 along with those generated by the synth itself. Alternatively, a MIDI hub can be purchased quite cheaply and will solve any MIDI connection problems between multiple pieces of equipment.

Simeon,
KrisR is right, and on top of that, in case you need to use the MIDI OUT connector to control other gear, you can always use the MIDI-USB THRU function, MIDI messages received at the MIDI IN
connector will be re-transmitted without change from
the USB connector, leaving the MIDI OUT connector free.
