No, the SH-201 is strictly a virtual analog synthesizer and cannot play samples.

thank you for the reply! what sampler can you recommend then?

If you just want to trigger one-shot samples and loops, I'd recommend you the SP-404SX. I quite liked the 404, but 404SX seems to be a really great improvement and is quite affordable especially considering all the cool features built into a small box.

I just picked up a basic Roland Fantom Xa "used" in order to trigger Samples. It works great! It also has a decent "basic" sequencer, arp, chord memory, rhythm, and rps functions that the SH-201 all lacks, except the arp. It also can be connected via USB and/or PC Card adapter with Flash or SD Card for fast sample transfer. I have found the SH-201 and Xa work extremely well together. It's awesome if you need a second set of keys to trigger or play too. I love jamming on these two live. Oh, and I also plan to throw in the highly regarded SRX-12 EP board to get some good electric piano sounds. It has 1 SRX card slot which you can rotate out cards or save them to the memory card.
