Triggering a patch with arpeggio from external controller

Hi gang...newbie here.
Does anyone know how, or if, you can play patches with arpeggios from an external midi keyboard device?
I have the sh-201 programmed with an amazing Hungry like the wolf patch that plays fine on the physical keyboard.
I also have the Roland pk-5a foot controller which i connect via MIDI and works great with every other 201 patch I use it for.
When i call up the Hungry patch and trigger from the foot controller, it just plays the first note...which of course just sounds like a short "bip".
I may have read that it is ONLY possible to play arpeggios on the actual 201 keyboard but I'm hoping there's a work-around.
Any help appreciated!
