This product only becomes really interesting to me if all of the capabilities are integrated well, and meets a few other standards of "excellence":

1) It needs to be 100% - absolutely no excuses - capable of loading all FantomX patches, including user-created patches based upon expansion cards (obvious you'd need the correct SRX installed)

2) It allows you use the SMF playback feature while simultaneously playing from an external MIDI controller.

3) It allows you to use the audio-track playback feature while simultaneously playing from an external MIDI controller.

4) It can accept an input from guitar and apply the internal amp and FX modeling to the guitar input without "robbing" the synth engine of a full FantomX-style set of 3 assignable MFX.

5) It needs to be able to do #4, while also doing #2 or #3 at the same time.

Otherwise it really gets into the "what's the point?" territory in my opinion.

I just play it again and I love it all the great 80's synth sounds like Xpander Brass,80's Brass 1-3,Juno 60/106 bass/Brass/Strings/Leads,80's FM piano,Jupiter 8.
D 50 Fantasia also sound great and Strings/Orch.And all other sounds also very great.

I will get mine next week with a SRX 07 card for more vintage synth sounds.

How Good is Sonic Cell compared to Fantom XR...

Post by GKMusic »

Hi

I have a plan to buy SonicCell today.. How better is it than
Fantom XR..

I understand SonicCell doesn't have inbuilt sampler...Other
than that is the sound quality and depth equivalent to Fantom
XR..

I would be glad to know which would be a better purchase..

Regards

I have it now and I love it.

If you can live with only two SRX slots and no sampler so yes I would go for SonicCell.
Does it sound better hard to say but it is a Fantom X sound engine.

Hi MortenJ,

I also bought it with complete piano late last night. The MP3 play back quality is pretty good which I can load a drum loop and jam with it.

Question : do you think that I can set effect for MP3 playback ?

Regards!

I bought one today and was amazed at the sounds spent a good 2 hours going through the patches.

Can anyone tell me how to hook this up to my computer and record the sounds? I have a Mac and have it showing up as an audio unit in logic and garageband, i have all the audio settings on the computer right.

I was assuming i could use the sonic cell like any other of my software audio unit instruments. Is this not the case?

Thanks for anyone who take the time to respond appreciate it.

I want to know too. Thinking bout buying one as a sound module and usie it with Logic Express 8. It must be possible to record the internal synth sounds as audio in the DAW, right??

Been reading the manual but haven't find it anywhere. If that isn't possible I guess one must have another sound interface (and tht's crap!).

If it is possible, can parts be seperated into tracks (for example if I use 5 parts, can they be recorded as audio o five different audio channels)?

Thanks in advance!
