I've heard a couple different dates. July and October are the two most consistent dates I've heard from people on other forums.

That is also what heard most shops in Europe say July.
But it is not on Rolandus site yet so maybe it is septemper/october.

I can answer part of your questions. A new waveform set has been created for SonicCell, including a collection of acoustic instruments, drums, and percussion. I also found out it will be available in June 2007 according to Sonic State.

This box gets more and more interesting; not only is it a top notch sound module and sample player, it's also a sound card, midi-interface and recorder.

I might actually consider one :)

SMF player

Hi,
I have a Fantom XR sound module and consider to buy a SonicCell to use as a midifile player. I'm using a MC-80 today, working well but looking for somthing more modern for the future.

My question is: Is it possible to use the SonicCell as a SMF player without it's internal sound (just sending via midi put to external)or a combination of internal sounds on some midichannels and sending midi out to an external soundmodule on other channels?

Hi Hans:

It sure looks that way to me. In fact, they show in one video in which apparently you can plug a compact-flash-card reader directly into the back of the Sonic Cell. This means that you can probably store a bunch of MIDI files, and then play them back using the SC unit. I have no idea whether there is sufficient internal memory in the Cell itself to let you go without the card, but it shouldn't be that hampering. A cf card goes for about fifty bucks these days, and about twenty additionally for a cheapo little reader/playback card holder thingy. So, you are looking at spending less than $100 (probably about 75 euro or whatever) for a kickass combo with a ton of memory.

I remember when 2 Gigs was HUGE -- for a HARD drive. Now you can get the same amount of memory in a tiny little card that can literally fit in your watch pocket -- and it costs about 1/4 or 1/5 of the old, klunky, potentially devastatingly unreliable old HD media. It boggles.

Hi SammyJames,

No doubt that with the SonicCell it's easy to connect USB units an play tons of standard midi files.

I was looking at the user manual and it looks like there is no place to set the channelparameter to "external", just playing internal sounds in the unit (probably great sounds)?

Maybe someone in here allready bought a unit an tried it out by connecting external equipment?
So that's why I was asking.

What I wish for is a SonicCell without a fantom in it, with usb and internal memory to play tousands of midifiles for live gigs.

In these days they seldom make hardware sequensers anymore. And Pc with sequenser software is great for recording in the studio, but for live performance I prefer a hardwareunit, simple and more steady.

SonicCell seems to be a great alternative if I only could connect mye Fantom XR to it?
